tsa

April 3, 4, and 5, 2008, twelve students from Clay County Middle School along with ten students from Clay County High School traveled to Cedar Lakes for the annual Technology Student Association’s competition.  Prior to the trip to Cedar Lakes, these students along with their sponsor, Mr. Jared Fitzwater spent several hours outside the school day working on projects and preparing speeches.  This hard work paid off as seven students left Cedar Lakes with first place finishes and the opportunity to travel to Orlando, Florida the last month of June for the National TSA Competition.

Samantha Harvey finished first with her graphic design piece.  Her design included the concept of a potter modeling clay and shaping the future.  Samantha would like to thank Ms. Autumn Wiley for her help with the completion of this piece.  Carlee Hopkins finished third in the graphic design competition.  Alexandra Cruickshank placed first in the Prepared Speaking Competition.  Alex’s speech focused on her plans to attend Hyde Park Culinary Arts School.  Carlee Hopkins placed third in the Prepared Public Speaking Competition.  In the Environmental Technology Alexandra Cruikshank and Megan Holcomb worked together to create a project and speech that won them first place.  In the Medical Technology Competition, Marissa Truman and Sarah Stalnaker generated a project board and speech that won them first place while Alex Cruickshank and Megan Holcomb placed third with their heart project.  In an on-site competition, Carlee Hopkins placed first in Technical Writing.  Marissa Truman submitted digital photographs taken before the competition for the first phase of Digital Challenge.  Her on-site photographs combined with her earlier submission won her third place in Digital Design. Marissa would like to thank Ms. Gina Thomas for her help with Photoshop enhancing photographs.   The team of Nikki Aleshire, Eliza Cercone, Holly Cogar, and Amanda Harvey placed third in CyberSpace Pursuit.  Nikki Aleshire, Megan Holcomb, and Sarah Stalnaker competed as a team to place third in the Technology Bowl competition.  All twelve CCMS students took the written technology bowl test.  The top three scorers made up the CCMS team and competed in oral quiz bowl format.  The System Control Technology Team of Eliza Cercone, Holly Cogar, and Brian Sizemore captured third place.  Clay County Middle School received third place recognition in the Outstanding School Category, which is determined by the amount of hardware taken away from the Conference.  Anita Stephenson, CCMS Principal, states, “I am very proud of Mr. Fitzwater and his students.  They spent many hours preparing and practicing for this competition.  Their displays, speeches, and performances were exceptional.  Mr. Fitzwater does an excellent job with these students and makes sure that the state competition is a positive experience for them.”  Mr. Fitzwater and the TSA students would like to thank the Clay County Board of Education and the Central Office for their continued support of TSA.  They would also like to thank their parent’s, the administration, and faculty at CCMS for all their support.
