Sylvan creates a profile of each child s academic strengths and needs based on the results of the Sylvan Skills Assessment. A personalized program is developed which incorporates the needed content needed to strengthen student skills. Children will receive individual attention in no more than a 3:1 ratio in order to improve classroom performance. Sylvan s highly skilled and certified teachers create an environment for learning that helps students reach their full potential. Children are rewarded with tokens to recognize hard work and good effort. Students may redeem tokens at the motivational Sylvan store. Minimum # to serve: 1 Maximum # to serve: 200 All Sylvan teachers are required to hold a bachelor s degree and a teaching certificate. Many have a master s degree or further in reading or mathematics. Almost all currently teach in the public school system, either as a classroom, special education, or Title I teacher. Sylvan Learning is continually seeking dynamic individuals considered as teachers of excellence as well as those demonstrating a positive, praise-oriented personality. In addition to being a certified teacher, Sylvan requires each teacher to meet the goals of the Sylvan certification which includes completion of training and the passing of a rigorous test in each program prior to teaching students. Sylvan utilizes incremental assessments to formally measure academic growth and guide further instruction. The Academic Reading program uses the vocabulary and comprehension sections and the Math Essentials program uses the computation and concepts and application sections to measure student progress. Of 203 students assessed on the 72 hour reading progress tests, 84% were considered successful . Of 94 students assessed on the 72 hour mathematics progress tests, 97% were considered successful .
